A New Inhabitant On My Balcony: Pyramidal Green Fruitworm
Hamburg, 19 May 2012
I stood on my balcony looking at the dark clouds towering in the sky. Distractedly I picked away some dry leaves from my plum tree, when I grabbed into something stangly soft. Looking down I discoverd a little butterfly caterpillar that had almost the same coulour as the leaves. According to the web it was pyramidal green fruitworm, the larve of the copper underwing (Amphipyra pyramidea), a moth.
Though it will probably cost the leaves of my tree, I have decided to let it live and become a butterfly ... if it survives the regularly visiting birds.
